Global Procurement Body CIPS Launches India Operations

New Delhi, March 11:  The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) having the largest global footprint as a professional body dedicated to procurement and supply chain management, has formally unveiled its operations in India.

Making the announcement here today, Mr. Ben Farrell, MBE, Group Chief Executive Officer of the CIPS, told the press that the functioning of the CIPS is going to be an important step in expanding professional procurement standards, qualifications, and capability development in one the fastest growing large economy of the world.
Mr. Farrell who is on a maiden visit of India said that he was very encouraged by  the prospects of the of operations of the CIPS in the country which not only has a huge population but is on the cusp of rapid economic development. The CIPS, which is a not-for-profit organization, will act as a catalyst to the economic development of the country, he pointed out.

Mr. Ram Trivedi, General Manager of the CIPS, addressing the media said that the Indian economy is going through significant expansion, accompanied by large-scale infrastructure investment, digital transformation in public procurement, and increasing participation in global supply chains. These developments have e heightened the demand for professionally-trained procurement and supply chain specialists capable of managing complex sourcing environment, he added.

The CIPS today signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government’s e-Marketplace (GeM) platform in order to give a fillip to the businesses, especially the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

It may be mentioned that the GeM has facilitated millions of transactions through a transparent digital marketplace. It has transformed public procurement by enabling government buyers to procure goods and services from MSMEs.

Besides facilitating business operations, CIPS will also offer internationally recognized professional qualifications ranging from Level 2 to Level 6, culminating in Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS), which is widely regarded as a global benchmark for professional procurement Competence.

The CIPS will also strengthen its engagement with academic and professional institutions in India. An MoU was signed with the All India Management Association (AIMA) during the Global Procurement Summit 2026, in order to help promote procurement education and professional learning.
